Phein CV Screener operates entirely within your web browser using advanced client-side processing technology. All document parsing, candidate analysis, and data handling occurs locally on your device. No CV files, personal candidate information, or recruitment data is ever transmitted to external servers, cloud storage systems, or third-party services.
Data Retention & Control
All uploaded documents remain exclusively on your local machine and are automatically cleared when you close your browser session or refresh the application.
You retain complete ownership and control over all candidate data processed through this application at all times.
No analytics, tracking cookies, or telemetry data is collected from your screening activities or document contents.
Regulatory Compliance

Job Criteria
Start by entering the Job Role title (e.g. "Senior Software Engineer"). Then define your skill requirements in two categories:
Core Competencies (red tags) — Must-have skills. Candidates are scored primarily on these (60% weight). Type each skill and press Enter to add it.
Desirable Skills (green tags) — Nice-to-have skills. These add bonus points but are not required (40% weight).
AI Skill Extraction: Paste a full job description into the AI textarea and click "Extract Skills." Phein will auto-detect relevant skills from the JD and present them as clickable suggestions.
Quick Start with Sample Data: Click the Sample button in the header to instantly load 12 pre-built Sales Manager candidate profiles with job criteria and skills. This is the fastest way to see Phein in action. The sample does not load automatically on refresh — click Sample whenever you want to load it.

Candidates to Pick
Use the +/- controls to set how many top candidates Phein should display after screening (up to 5,500). This does not limit how many CVs you can upload, only how many ranked results are shown.

Screening Options
Toggle optional detection features before running your screening:
AI Detection Lens — When enabled, analyzes each candidate's CV text using 7 statistical signals (vocabulary bias, sentence burstiness, specificity, structural uniformity, transition density, pattern repetition, hedging language) to estimate the probability of AI-generated or AI-assisted content. Each candidate receives a percentage score and a classification label: Not AI Generated (green), Possibly AI Assisted (amber), Likely AI Generated (orange), or AI Generated (red). Click the tag for a detailed breakdown. This analysis is purely informational and does not affect the candidate's screening score.
Work Authorization Detection — Scans every CV for visa and work permit keywords (H-1B, Green Card, Tier 2, Work Permit, Right to Work, ILR, Sponsorship, EAD, etc.). Candidates are categorized as Authorized (citizen, PR, ILR) or Visa Required.
Salary Information — Extracts salary, compensation, and package mentions with currency amounts from candidate documents.
Show LinkedIn & Portfolio Links — When enabled, automatically extracts and displays LinkedIn profile URLs and portfolio/website links found in candidate documents. Toggling this off hides the links from candidate cards. Enabled by default.
Show Candidate Location — Toggle on to display the candidate's city and country of residence, automatically extracted from their CV. Only candidates who have location information in their documents will show a location tag. Useful for roles with geographic requirements or relocation considerations.
Show Candidate Age Premium — When enabled, displays the candidate's age if it can be detected from their CV (e.g. "Date of Birth", "Age" fields). Age is only shown when explicitly found in the document.

Clear Workspace Before Adding New Candidates
Important: Before uploading a new batch of candidates, click the Clear button. You will be asked to choose: Clear Candidates Only (removes uploaded documents and results but keeps your job criteria and skills) or Clear Entire Workspace (removes everything for a completely fresh start). If you are screening a new role, use "Clear Entire Workspace." If you are screening a new batch for the same role, use "Clear Candidates Only" to save time re-entering criteria.

Upload Documents
Drag and drop PDF or TXT files — or entire folders — into the upload zone. Phein auto-detects three document types:
CV / Resume — Scored at 60% of the total match weight.
Cover Letter — Scored at 40% of the total match weight.
When multiple documents belong to the same candidate (same name), Phein automatically groups them and calculates a combined score. Each candidate card shows document type badges (CV, Resume, CL) and a score breakdown.

Run Screening
Click "Find Top Candidates" to analyze all uploaded documents against your criteria. Phein uses semantic skill matching (aliases, qualification hierarchy, experience parsing, proficiency detection) to score each candidate. Results are ranked by match score and displayed as cards.

Understanding Candidate Cards
Each candidate card displays:
Name + Document Badges — Shows which document types were found (CV, Resume, CL).
Score — Overall match percentage (0-100%). Gold/silver/bronze left-border for top 3.
Score Breakdown — Separate CV score and Cover Letter score when both exist.
Matched Skills (green pills) — Skills the candidate has that match your criteria.
Gaps (red pills) — Required skills the candidate is missing.
Contact Info — Email and phone extracted from documents.

Recruiter Tools (on each card)
Each candidate card has powerful recruiter tools:
Status Tags — Click the badge next to a candidate's name to cycle through recruitment stages: None (neutral), Shortlisted (passes screening), Interview (selected for interview), Hold (backup/waitlist), Offer (offer extended), Rejected (not suitable). Status tags are included in PDF and CSV exports.
Interview Questions — Expand to see AI-generated interview questions tailored to each candidate's skill gaps.
Add Note — Click to add freeform recruiter notes. Notes auto-save and are included in both PDF and CSV exports.
AI Detection Tag — When AI Detection Lens is enabled, each candidate card shows a percentage tag indicating the likelihood of AI-generated content. Click this tag to open a detailed analysis popup with a probability gauge, section breakdown, 7-axis radar chart, triggered indicators, evidence highlights, and recommended interview questions based on the detection results.
Comparison Checkbox — Check 2 candidates, then click the floating "Compare" button for a side-by-side analysis. The comparison modal shows: candidate cards with strengths and gaps, a score bar chart, a skill overlap analysis (shared strengths, unique differentiators, common gaps), per-candidate detailed assessments, and an Interview Strategy recommendation that highlights which common gaps to probe during interviews and which differentiator skills to weigh most heavily in your hiring decision.

Statistics Dashboard
A collapsible dashboard appears above your results showing: average score, score distribution histogram, top matched skills across all candidates, and most common skill gaps. Click the header to expand/collapse.

Export Results
Click the Export button in the header to choose:
Export PDF — Professional branded report with your agency name, all candidate scores, contact info, matched skills, gaps, status tags, notes, visa info, and salary data. Enter your company name in the dialog before downloading.
Export CSV — Spreadsheet-compatible file with all screening data (rank, name, score, email, phone, matched skills, gaps, status, notes, visa, salary) for further analysis in Excel or Google Sheets.
Choose whether to remove only the uploaded candidates, or reset the entire workspace including job criteria and skills.
Reset Workspace?
This will clear all loaded CVs, parsed skills, and job details. This action cannot be undone.
